My wife and I are very thankful for the rain and the cooler weather.  Even though we will probably slip back into summer mode soon,  the weather over Labor Day weekend has given us hope and roused our spirits.

We have a rainwater collection system which we have used for our main water source for over 10 years.  At first we put in a well which provides plenty of water but the water is thick with minerals (mostly calcium).

We started with a three thousand gallon system which was impossibly small for us and our three children.   We ended up building two 20,000 gallon ferrocement tanks.

Now the children are grown and gone for the most part so we have more than enough storage capacity.

Anyway,  I love rain.  I like the sound on our metal roof and I like to check the rain gauge and calculate how many gallons of fresh rainwater we collect.

Because rain has become so essential to our life,  I have learned to pay close attention the wind, clouds etc.
